‘The Raven King,’ ‘The Unexpected Everything,’ And More Books On My June TBR

I always make a to be read list but I tend to deviate from it every time. I always find some other book I want to read that’s not on my list but this month I’m going to try to be good and stick to my list. Here’s what I plan on reading this month.

1. The Raven King by Maggie Stiefvater

The_Raven_King_Cover_Official.jpeg

I’ve been making my way through the Raven Cycle series and I can’t believe it’s almost over. I absolutely fell in love with this magical and mysterious series and although I don’t want it to end I can’t wait to know how it all comes together.

2. You Know Me Well by Nina LaCour & David Levithan

lacourlevithan.jpg

I received an ARC copy of this book and I thought it sounded amazing. It follows Mark and Kate, who discover more about each other in one night than they ever thought possible. Also, before you think this is a love story between Mark and Kate, it should be noted that Kate has been in love with a girl from afar for a while and Mark is in love his best friend. #LGBTQReads

3. Wolf by Wolf by Ryan Graudin

51LKTQmvKxL._SY344_BO1,204,203,200_.jpg

Full disclosure I’m not entirely sure what this book is about. I know it changes history so the Axis powers win World War II and now the main character is in a race to kill Hitler. I think. Either way I’ve heard a lot of good things about it and I got the ARC of the sequel so I’m excited to dive in.

4. Blood for Blood by Ryan Graudin

26864835.jpg

Speaking of the sequel…I mainly want to read Wolf by Wolf so I can read Blood for Blood. Someone told me I don’t need to read Wolf by Wolf to read Blood for Blood but I don’t want to be confused about anything so I’m going to read Wolf by Wolf first and then dive into this book.

5. Fairest by Marisa Meyer

Fairest_Cover

Fairest has been on TBR for SO long. I need to read this book just so I can finally say I’ve read all The Lunar Chronicles books. It’s the only one I haven’t read. I even read Stars Above. I don’t know why I haven’t read it yet. Maybe because I don’t care about Levana that much. Either way, this month is the month. For reals this time.

6. The Unexpected Everything by Morgan Matson

17838528.jpg

I had the pleasure of meeting Morgan Matson and she was such an amazing person. I haven’t read any of her books yet but this one sounds really interesting and I’m excited to read it. I already started it and I’m intrigued.

7. Dark Horses by Cecily von Ziegesar

51f71JEMokL._SX328_BO1,204,203,200_.jpg

I loved Cecily von Zeigesar’s Gossip Girl and It Girl series so I was excited to hear she was coming out with a new book. This book is a bit darker than her previous series but I’m interested to see if I’ll love it just as much as I loved her other books.

8. Dreamology by Lucy Keating

23466626.jpg

First of all, this cover is beautiful. Secondly, I love the premise of this novel. The girl literally falls in love with the boy of her dreams and then the boy isn’t just in her dreams anymore. Talk about a crazy love story. I can’t wait!

What are you reading this month? Let me know in the comments below!

‘A Court of Mist and Fury,’ ‘The Dream Thieves,’ and Other Books I Read This Month (May Wrap-Up)

This month I got a lot of books and read a lot of books. Here’s my wrap-up!

'A Court of Mist and Fury,' 'The Dream Thieves,' And Other Books I Read This Month

Number of Books I Read This Month: 7

TOP THREE BOOKS I READ THIS MONTH

1. A Court of Mist and Fury by Sarah J. Maas

Screen Shot 2016-05-19 at 3.43.01 PM

I absolutely loved this book. If you look at my Tumblr page this is basically all I’ve been talking about. In this sequel to A Court of Thorns and Roses we see Feyre go to the Night Court and discover that there’s more to Prythian than she first believed.

2. The Dream Thieves by Maggie Stiefvater

Screen Shot 2016-05-16 at 8.50.57 PM

I’m loving The Raven Cycle series. I can’t believe it took me this long to read it. I’m almost done with Blue Lily, Lily Blue and I’ll be so sad to say goodbye to the Raven Boys and Blue. But I have to know how it ends so I’m going to keep reading!

3. Champion by Marie Lu

14290364

This was the perfect end to the Legend trilogy. Marie Lu wrapped up everything so well and I was so sad to say goodbye to Day and June but I was completely satisfied with how it ended. I can wait to read her other trilogy, The Young Elites.

OTHER BOOKS I READ THIS MONTH

  1. Now I’ll Tell You Everything by Phyllis Reynolds Naylor
  2. First Comes Love by Emily Giffin
  3. The Crown by Kiera Cass
  4. Mister O by Lauren Blakely

Thanks to The Book Con, good friends that gave me free books, and some ARCs, I got a lot of books this month. In total I got 24 books, not including e-books. Crazy! I’ll probably be on a book ban for a while now but with all these books I’ll be good for the month of June.

'First Comes Love' Book Review

ARC Book Review: First Comes Love

Screen Shot 2016-05-23 at 8.54.19 PM.png

Synopsis from Amazon:

Growing up, Josie and Meredith Garland shared a loving, if sometimes contentious, relationship. Josie was impulsive, spirited, and outgoing, Meredith hardworking, thoughtful, and reserved. When tragedy strikes, their delicate bond splinters.

Fifteen years later, Josie and Meredith are in their late thirties, following very different paths. Josie, a first grade teacher, is single—and this close to swearing off dating for good. What she wants more than the right guy, however, is to become a mother—a feeling that is heightened when her ex-boyfriend’s daughter is assigned to her class. Determined to have the future she’s always wanted, Josie decides to take matters into her own hands.

On the outside, Meredith is the model daughter with the perfect life. A successful attorney, she’s married to a wonderful man, and together they’re raising a beautiful four-year-old daughter. Yet lately Meredith feels dissatisfied and restless, secretly wondering if she chose the life that was expected of her rather than the one she truly desired.

As the anniversary of their tragedy looms, and painful secrets from the past begin to surface, Josie and Meredith must not only confront the issues that divide them but also come to terms with their own choices. In their journey toward understanding and forgiveness, both sisters discover that they need each other more than they knew—and that in the search for true happiness, love always comes first.

*I received a free digital advanced reader’s copy of this book from Ballantine Books via NetGalley. This did not influence my review of this book in anyway. This is an honest review of the novel as I saw it. This novel will be released on June 28, 2016.*

For the record, although I personally wouldn’t buy this book I didn’t hate it I just didn’t love it as much as I had hoped I would.

First Comes Love is told in the alternating point of views of Josie and Meredith. While Meredith has a more type-A kind of personality and a seemingly perfect life, Josie is more carefree and a little crazy. The sisters handle the death of their brother, Daniel, very differently. For Meredith she feels like she has to be the perfect daughter for her parents and do whatever will make them happy. Josie, conversely, doesn’t discuss her brother’s death and tries not to think about it all.

I found Meredith to be irritating. I just didn’t really like her personality and I definitely sided with Josie for most of the novel, though Josie does make mistakes as well. I was also confused by the direction of the plot, particularly Josie’s storyline. There’s three significant men in Josie’s life: Will (her ex), Gabe (her best friend), and Pete (a guy she kind of dates). I was surprised by how Josie’s relationship with all three of them played out and honestly, I didn’t really like it. It just seemed like a strange ending to me and I didn’t get it at all.

I did, however, like how Meredith’s story ended, or more accurately, how it was kind of left open ended. Meredith definitely grew on me towards the end, but Josie is definitely my favorite of the two sisters.

Overall, I just didn’t love this book. Out of all the characters I think my favorite was Gabe but I still didn’t really connect with him. As always Emily Giffin’s writing was superb but the plot itself didn’t enthrall me, which is why I won’t be adding it to my shelf.

Book Review of A Court of Mist and Fury (ACOMAF)

Book Review: A Court of Mist and Fury

Screen Shot 2016-05-19 at 3.43.01 PM.png

Synopsis from Amazon:

Feyre survived Amarantha’s clutches to return to the Spring Court–but at a steep cost. Though she now has the powers of the High Fae, her heart remains human, and it can’t forget the terrible deeds she performed to save Tamlin’s people.

Nor has Feyre forgotten her bargain with Rhysand, High Lord of the feared Night Court. As Feyre navigates its dark web of politics, passion, and dazzling power, a greater evil looms–and she might be key to stopping it. But only if she can harness her harrowing gifts, heal her fractured soul, and decide how she wishes to shape her future–and the future of a world cleaved in two.

*This book is part of my POPSUGAR 2016 Reading Challenge.*

*WARNING: If you haven’t read A Court of Thorns and Roses yet, there will be spoilers. You’ve been warned!*

A Court of Mist and Fury (ACOMAF) picks up three months after the end of ACOTAR and Feyre is still dealing with the trauma of everything that happened Under the Mountain and with Amarantha. While Feyre spends most nights fighting her nightmares and vomiting, Tamlin has become overprotective. He fears for Feyre’s safety and doesn’t want her to go out into town or hunting, but instead to stay in the castle with one of the High Priestesses, Ianthe.

While Feyre and Tamlin continue to butt heads over what Feyre can and can’t do, they’re also preparing for their wedding, despite their issues. Additionally, Feyre questions the bargain she made with Rhysand, the High Lord of the Night Court. She agreed to spend a week with him each month but in the three months since she’d been back at the Spring Court Rhysand never came for her and she’s not sure why.

Until one day when he shows up just when she needs him and changes Feyre’s world forever. Whisked away to the Night Court Feyre soon discovers there’s more to the dark High Lord than she ever imagined.

ACOMAF takes readers even deeper into the faerie world of Prythian, showing us new courts that are even bigger and more intriguing than what we saw in ACOTAR. Sarah J. Maas built a fantastic world that includes many new characters that I absolutely loved. This book was filled with romance, action, twists, and just overall bad ass scenes that I couldn’t put it down for one second. Maas touches on so many subjects from trauma to various kinds of abuse to genuine love and does so in such a way that it doesn’t feel preachy or fluffy, it just feels real.

A Court of Mist and Fury will take you on a roller coaster ride that will leave you breathless and aching for the next book. It’s no surprise that it’s a #1 New York Times Bestseller and I’m incredibly excited to see what Maas will do next.

Borrow or Buy: Ha! Why is this question? I want this book in every format. I need the hardcover for my shelf, e-book for travel, and paperback just because. Buy this book and then love this book. Forever.

The Book Con

My Very First BookCon

The Book Con

I can’t believe BookCon was only four days ago. It feels so long ago. It feels like dream! A magical dream filled with books and authors and other book nerds that understand my obsession.

BookCon was everything I hoped for. I went to four different author signings with Alexandra Bracken (The Darkest Minds), Maggie Stiefvater (The Raven Cycle), Jenny Han (To All The Boys I Loved Before), and Natalie Richards (Six Months Later). I was hoping to go to Sarah J. Maas and Victoria Aveyard’s signings but they filled up before I could get wrist bands.

Maggie Stiefvater at Book Con Most of the signings occurred in the Autographing Area and in order to get into those signings you had to get a wristband. At 8 AM they opened up this room that were filled with Chutes and you waited in the Chute for whichever author you wanted to go to a signing for. Each Chute had multiple authors but you could only get one wristband at a time. For example, I waited in Chute 8 to get a wristband for Sarah J. Maas but it filled up before I got to the front but Chute 8 also had Maggie Stiefvater and Veronica Roth. I knew I couldn’t get both because I’d have to wait in line again and by then the author I didn’t choose would probably be full so I chose Maggie because I’m completely obsessed with The Raven Cycle.

Similarly, I was waiting in a chute for Victoria Aveyard and Marissa Meyer and both filled up before I got to the front so I ended up leaving that chute and going to another one where I got the last wristband for Jenny Han. Overall, the whole autographing process was crazy but I’m happy with the authors I got to meet and now I know for next year I have to get there earlier. I got there around 7:30 AM but someone else got there as early as 3:30 AM. I won’t be getting there that early next time but I’ll try for 6 AM.

Although I didn’t get to meet Maas and Aveyard I did get to hear them speak on the Book-Hooked panel with Laini Taylor and that was amazing. Sarah is hilarious and such a fan girl. She told us about how dorky she was in high school and her love for The Lord of the Rings, Sailor Moon, and Buffy. Victoria and Laini were also great and all three of them had great chemistry and you could tell they’re really friends and fans of each other.

Victoria Aveyard, Sarah J. Maas, and Laini Taylor at Book Con.

Book-Hooked was the only panel I made it to and I wish I went to more but I’m happy with the one I went to. It was really good and I got a sampler of Taylor’s new book, Strange the Dreamer. I haven’t read any of Taylor’s books before so I’m excited to read this and see if I like it.

Besides the panels and the autographing sessions, it was great to just walk around the different booths. I went to the OwlCrate booth and spun their wheel and won a reading journal. I already have one so I gave it to my friend but they also gave me a tote bag and there were free buttons so I took a couple. I also got four ARCs including Blood for Blood, the sequel to Wolf by Wolf, which I just requested from my library.

I also bought four books, three for signings and one that was on sale at the Penguin Random House booth. And then I also got four books for free from different publishers, including The Shack, which I’ve heard is really good. So in total I got 12 books, which is kind of crazy. I also got a couple of samplers of upcoming releases, which I’m super excited about.

Book Con Haul

All in all, it was a great day and I got so much stuff. I also met up with a fellow bookstagrammer who was super nice and was there with her husband and kids, which was super cute. It was amazing to be surrounded with other book people and I even saw a few people in cosplay, which was cool. This is the first con I’ve ever been to and now I can’t wait to do it all over again.

Thankfully, BookCon will be back in New York, which is super convenient for me. I already marked it on my calendar so I don’t plan a vacation the same weekend, which is what happened the last time BookCon was in New York. I can’t wait until it’s BookCon time again. I miss it already.

'The Dream Thieves' Book Review

Book Review: The Dream Thieves

Screen Shot 2016-05-16 at 8.50.57 PM.png

Synopsis from Amazon:

If you could steal things from dreams, what would you take?

Ronan Lynch has secrets. Some he keeps from others. Some he keeps from himself.

One secret: Ronan can bring things out of his dreams.

And sometimes he’s not the only one who wants those things.

Ronan is one of the raven boys – a group of friends, practically brothers, searching for a dead king named Glendower, who they think is hidden somewhere in the hills by their elite private school, Aglionby Academy. The path to Glendower has long lived as an undercurrent beneath town. But now, like Ronan’s secrets, it is beginning to rise to the surface – changing everything in its wake.

*WARNING: If you haven’t read The Raven Boys yet DO NOT read this review. There will be spoilers.*

This novel was really centered around Ronan and the Lynch family and I loved that. It was interesting to learn more about Ronan and his ability to take things from dreams and where it came from.

As usual, I also really love the raven boys dynamic as a whole. Adam is struggling with his new relationship or bonding with Cabeswater, which effects his relationship with Blue. Meanwhile, Ganesy is in denial that Adam went behind his back to Cabeswater and Noah is fading in and out along with the ley line. This group in five are just hilarious together. They’re so witty, snarky, and full of sass. Similarly, all the ladies of 300 Fox Way are crazy in the best possible way. They somehow all manage to work together and move each other, while still have these very different personalities.

In this book we also got a new character, Mr. Gray, who I was really intrigued by. He’s kind of strange but honestly in this series, who isn’t? Besides him we also see Kavinsky who may have been in the first novel (I don’t remember) but he wasn’t as relevant as he is in this book. Kavinsky plays a big role in this book and it was interesting to see how he messed with the raven boys dynamic.

Overall, I really liked this book and the cliff hanger at the end. Thank God I waited until all the books were out before diving into this series because I don’t think I could’ve waited a year to know what happens next. Also, on that note, I met Maggie Stiefvater at Book Con over the weekend and when I told her I was reading the series now she said that was probably a good idea because she heard the author tends to end her books on cliff hangers, which I thought was hilarious.

Borrow or Buy: Buy! I plan on buying all the books in this series once I get a new book shelf. I got The Raven King when I was at Book Con so now I just need the other three.

Book Review: Champion

9780141351964

Synopsis from Amazon:

June and Day have sacrificed so much for the people of the Republic—and each other—and now their country is on the brink of a new existence. June is back in the good graces of the Republic, working within the government’s elite circles as Princeps Elect while Day has been assigned a high level military position. But neither could have predicted the circumstances that will reunite them once again. Just when a peace treaty is imminent, a plague outbreak causes panic in the Colonies, and war threatens the Republic’s border cities. This new strain of plague is deadlier than ever, and June is the only one who knows the key to her country’s defense. But saving the lives of thousands will mean asking the one she loves to give up everything he has. With heart-pounding action and suspense, Marie Lu’s bestselling trilogy draws to a stunning conclusion.

*Note: If you haven’t read Prodigy by Marie Lu, there will be spoilers! You’ve been warned.*

Champion starts a few months after the end of Prodigy and it’s been a while since Day and June have seen each other. After being told he was dying Day thought it would be better to leave June because he didn’t want to hold her back from accepting the Princeps-Elect position Elector Anden had offered her. Of course, June doesn’t know any of this and just knows that Day broke up with her.

But now Day needs to go back because the Republic and the Colonies peace treaty is falling apart and they need Day’s help. June has to ask Day to consider doing the impossible and in doing so it brings back a whole lot of tension between them that they’ve tried to keep at bay.

I loved June and Day’s relationship. It’s really complicated but also filled with love. Plus they come from such different backgrounds and complement each other perfectly. I’m so glad this trilogy is told in their alternating POVs because they have such different perspectives on everything.

I don’t want to spoil anything so I don’t want to say too much but this book was filled with action, a decent amount of romance but not too much, and the ending was different than I expected but still really good. Definitely a buy for me.

The Crown Book Review

Book Review: The Crown

91l3WuCHE0L.jpg

Synopsis from Amazon:

In The Heir, a new era dawned in the world of The Selection. Twenty years have passed since America Singer and Prince Maxon fell in love, and their daughter is the first princess to hold a Selection of her own.

Eadlyn didn’t think she would find a real partner among the Selection’s thirty-five suitors, let alone true love. But sometimes the heart has a way of surprising you…and now Eadlyn must make a choice that feels more difficult—and more important—than she ever expected.

*This book is part of my POPSUGAR 2016 Reading Challenge.*

SPOILER FREE REVIEW (Note: If you haven’t read The Heir don’t read this!)

Once I finished this book with tears in my eyes I knew I couldn’t do this review without spoilers. However, since I typically do my reviews without spoilers I figured it’d be unfair to my wonderful followers to not continue that, so this review will be split into two parts. Here’s my review, completely spoiler free:

The Crown picks up right where The Heir left off, and I couldn’t help but feel bad for Eadlyn. After Ahern left and her mother suffered a heart attack, things weren’t going so well for Eadlyn. However, her struggles actually made her a more likable character to me. My biggest issue with The Heir was Eadlyn, to be honest. I just found her to be spoiled and irritating.

However, The Crown showed us another side of Eadlyn. She’s more vulnerable and more honest about her heart and what she wants. Don’t get me wrong, she still makes mistakes, but at least we get to see a different side of her in this novel and I truly enjoyed it.

Overall, I thought Kiera Cass tied a lot of things together in this last novel and did a really good job with it. She answered questions I didn’t think to ask and there were even some twists I wasn’t expecting, which is always a plus. I will say, however, that the ending didn’t satisfy me as much as I wanted it to. I was hoping for more from the epilogue and was disappointed that it was so short. Even though I know this is really the last book I hope Cass at least gives us a bonus epilogue or something like she did with The One. I just need a little more time with these characters and then I’ll be good, I swear.

Seriously, though, I really did enjoy this novel and highly recommend the whole Selection series if you haven’t read them yet. They’re definitely worth a read.

FROM THIS POINT ON THERE WILL BE SPOILERS!

I REPEAT, THERE WILL BE SPOILERS!

BEWARE THE SPOILERS!

The Crown Review

Alright if you haven’t turned back by now there’s no stopping you so here I go.

Oh. My. God. She chose Erik(Eikko)! She chose Erik! I freaking called it. They’re engaged and I cried and it was beautiful and she loves him. She’s loved him this WHOLE time! Yes!

Okay now that I got that off my chest let’s get into this. First of all, America is alive thank God. Honestly, I would’ve never forgiven Cass if she killed off America. That just wouldn’t make sense. There’s no reason for that. And I absolutely loved that Eadlyn decided to step up and be queen early just so her parents could be happy. That was so cute.

Also, Ahern (eventually) came back. Honestly, I wasn’t mad at Ahern in The Heir but I was furious with him in this book. His reasoning for not calling or coming back sooner after he heard about America was ridiculous. Your mother had a heart attack and you didn’t come immediately running? That’s absurd. There’s no excuse for that. Still, seeing him and Camille together was very cute.

And although I knew Eadlyn shouldn’t trust Marid I’m still very upset that his parents, August and Georgia, turned out to be shady. Honestly, I’m still not sure if I believe it since we don’t see them at all in this book but if their son is any indication I’m really mad things turned out this way. I loved Georgia and I liked that she and America were friends. It sucked to see that friendship had deteriorated over years.

And I knew Hale was gay but I was not expecting him to end up with Ean. EAN! Of all people I was most suspicious of him. Who knew it was only because he was in the closest? I’m so glad he and Hale could be together. They’re so cute! All the boys in the end of the selection were except for maybe Gunner, who didn’t really have a big role, and Fox, who got a little weird at the end. Okay so really my favorites were Hale, Henri, Kile, and Ean. And of course, Erik!!

Let’s just talk about Erik and Eadlyn because honestly they’re all I can think about. There were so many wonderful scenes with them in this book and it just made me so happy because I knew it!!

Even Erik had gotten me a flower. I smirked a bit as I took it.

“This is a dandelion,” I told him.

He shrugged. “I know. Some see a weed; some see a flower. Perspective.”

At this point I was already thinking, “Cool, so they’re endgame? Right? Right?!”

But I didn’t to get my hopes up. I mean honestly, who didn’t love Kile? He had one of the greatest lines in the book:

“Maybe it’s not the first kisses that are supposed to be special. Maybe it’s the last ones.”

I literally sighed. Kile is so perfect. He’s cute, funny, and knows Eadlyn inside out. But he just wasn’t the one. He didn’t want to live in the castle anymore, anyone could see that. He was a great friend to Eadlyn but he wasn’t her soulmate. Plus, Erik had some great one liners two.

“You look breathtaking, Eadlyn. I couldn’t even remember what I was so worked up about when you first walked in.”

And then this:

“You are always just Eadlyn. And you are always the queen. You are everything to everyone. And infinitely more to me.”

Sweet Jesus! Kiera, why do you do this to me? I can’t keep falling in love with these fictional characters. They’re ruining my life! But Daddy Maxon killed it for me. He said the absolute perfect thing to Eadlyn in the end that finally allowed her to follow her heart.

“Break the stupid rule, Eadlyn. Marry the man you love. If he’s good enough for you to approve of, then I certainly do. And if the people don’t, that can be their problem.”

And it was then that I began to cry and kept crying all the way to the acknowledgments which just made me cry harder. Still, there’s a lot of things I wish Kiera included. I wanted to see Eadlyn and Erik get married. I wanted to know if Gerad was actually able to get a job for Neena’s boyfriend in Angeles. I wanted to see Kaden and Josie get together (also I didn’t realize they were that close in age until the end). I guess I’ll have to turn to fan fiction for that but I’d really just like a bonus epilogue. Please!

Oh, and that reveal about Lady Brice being Maxon’s sister? That was crazy. Speaking of which, does America know? I would assume so but can we get some clarity please?

I think my biggest issue is that everything just seemed to come together so quickly in the end that it was hard for me to believe, especially the constitutional monarchy. I liked the idea but it seemed like Eadlyn came up with it on the spot and that just seemed so unlike her. She just changed the government in a moment on live TV. Who does that?

Even so, I can’t deny I loved this book. I already know I’ll be going back to it again soon, to reread my favorite scenes. This was a great ending and I’ll miss this series so much. Thank you Kiera Cass!

Borrow or Buy: Why is this even a question? Buy it!

Mister O by Lauren Blakely Book Review

Book Review: Mister O

91GZnRBjWiL.jpg

Synopsis from Amazon:

Making a woman feel ‘oh-god-that’s-good’ is the name of the game, and if a man can’t get the job done, he should get the hell out of the bedroom. I’m talking toe-curling, mind-blowing, sheet-grabbing ecstasy. Like I provide every time.

I suppose that makes me a superhero of pleasure, and my mission is to always deliver.

But then I’m thrown for a loop when a certain woman asks me to teach her everything about how to win a man. The only problem? She’s my best friend’s sister, but she’s far too tempting to resist–especially when I learn that sweet, sexy Harper has a dirty mind too and wants to put it to good use. What could possibly go wrong as I give the woman I’ve secretly wanted some no-strings-attached lessons in seduction?

No one will know, even if we send a few dirty sexts. Okay, a few hundred. Or if the zipper on her dress gets stuck. Not on that! Or if she gives me those f*&k-me-eyes on the train in front of her whole family.

The trouble is the more nights I spend with her in bed, the more days I want to spend with her out of bed. And for the first time ever, I’m not only thinking about how to make a woman cry out in pleasure –I’m thinking about how to keep her in my arms for a long time to come.

Looks like the real Adventures of Mister Orgasm have only just begun….

*This book is part of my POPSUGAR 2016 Reading Challenge.*

Erotic romances aren’t my go to reading material but after reading Big Rock I knew I could trust Lauren Blakely’s writing. Plus I loved Harper and Nick in Big Rock and was excited they were getting their own story. If you haven’t read Big Rock you could totally read Mister O as a standalone but I’d recommend reading Big Rock first. It’s really good too.

Nick is a cartoonist that makes a dirty cartoon show that kind of falls along the lines of Family Guy in terms of humor. His favorite activity is pleasuring woman, which is why his best friend’s little sister, Harper, approaches Nick for dating and then sex advice. One thing leads to another and Nick becomes Harper’s teacher in everything that happens in the bedroom. However, as the two spend more time together in bed, Nick finds himself wanting to spend more time with Harper outside of it. Cue romance!

This book was the perfect fun and quick, while admittedly somewhat cliche, book I needed. It was steamy and fast paced and Nick and Harper played off each other really well. I loved their quips and jokes and how they really got each other in this cute way.

Also, I really loved when Blakely put in these little quips about writing that were like little inside jokes between her as the author and us readers. For example, at one point Nick, when comparing what he and Harper are doing to what the love interests in Big Rock did, says, “No, that’d be lame if we did the same thing. That would be like if a romance writer used the same trope in the very next novel.” I thought that was hilarious because obviously that would be exactly what Blakely would be doing but thankfully she did not.

All in all, if you’re looking for a cute, erotic romance novel I highly recommend Mister O. Although there were definitely some scenes I found unrealistic, it was overall fun and playful, and honestly, it’s kind of fun to get sucked into the fantasy. Plus it’s not expensive so why not buy it? I did.

Also, Blakely has a few more books coming out about the supporting characters in this novel. The next one will be about Nick’s brother, Wyatt, and it definitely sounds interesting. I’ll probably try to resist falling into another one of these novels but my willpower is weak. These have definitely become my guilty pleasure reads for sure. Love them!

“I want to look into someone’s eyes and feel like he knows me, gets me, understand me. I want him to see my quirks and accept them, not try to change them. I want to know what that’s like.”

'The Raven Boys, 'Maybe Someday,' And Other Books I Read In Apil

‘The Raven Boys,’ ‘Maybe Someday,’ and Other Books I Read This Month (April Wrap-Up)

I made up for my March reading slump by reading almost non-stop. I still didn’t read as many books as I would’ve liked but at least now I’m back on track with my reading challenge. Check out my wrap-up below.

I’m slowly making my way through Colleen Hoover’s books and I must say I think Maybe Someday is my favorite so far. I really loved Sydney, Ridge, and Warren. This book was filled with great characters and the romance was everything. Definitely a must buy for me. I want this on my shelf desperately so I can read it again and again.

2. A Study in Charlotte by Brittany Cavallaro

A Study In Charlotte Book Review

Truthfully I’m not a big Sherlock Holmes fan. Not that I don’t like him I’m just definitely not as obsessed with him as I know a lot of people are. However, when I heard about this book I immediately wanted it. It’s basically a modern day, gender swapped Sherlock Holmes story, told in the POV of Watson. There was mystery, humor, and just a bit of romance that kept things interesting. Definitely grab this book if you haven’t already.

3. The Raven Boys by Maggie Stiefvater

If you’re heavily involved in the book community you’ve probably heard a lot about this series recently because the last book, The Raven King, just released. Truthfully this series somehow never crossed my radar until I saw it all over Instagram. But now that I’ve been completely sucked into the series I must say I get the hype. The main characters are Blue, the daughter of a psychic but with no psychic abilities of her own, and the Raven Boys, a group of four boys that attend the private boarding school in Blue’s town. I could go on and on about how much I love this series but I already reviewed it so just know it was amazing and you should read it.

  2. Maybe Not by Colleen Hoover
  3. Too Late by Colleen Hoover
