Shows I Watch: The Complete List

When I tell people I watch about 20 shows the first reaction is, “How do you have time?” followed by, “Which ones?” Therefore I’ve decided to write out the complete list of shows that I watch so next time someone asks I can just look at this list and make sure I’m not missing any. These are all shows that I am completely caught up on and still air. These are in no particular order.

*Updated Sept. 18*

Once Upon a Time

Once-Upon-a-Time-+-Observatório-da-TV

At first I thought this show sounded lame. Fairytale characters in the real world? Yeah, okay. But then I actually started watching it and I got sucked in. There’s drama with a touch of fantasy that brings you back to all those fairytales you read as a kid while still giving you a bunch of couples to ship.

Teen Wolf

rs_560x415-140106122533-1024.teen-wolf.cm.1613_copy

This is another show I didn’t think I could get into. Loosely based on the ’80s film of the same name this show originally started as your typical supernatural boy meets girl situation. The main character, Scott, is bitten by a werewolf thereby turning him into a werewolf changing him from an average high school teen to a supernatural being. Of course he then falls in love with a girl who’s family is the werewolf hunting business. Talk about awkward. The show has since developed into more of thriller, scaring the pants off of me with almost every episode.

Game of Thrones

game-of-thrones-title

This show is one of my all time favorites mainly because I never know what could happen next. Of course I could read the books but I’d rather not ruin it for myself. Based in a fantasy world the show is basically about what you think it is. Everyone’s trying to get the crown and rule Westeros and there’s a lot of murder, war, and political treachery that comes along with that. In summary, it’s fantastic.

Scandal

scandal_season_2

Unless you’ve been living under a rock you’ve definitely heard of this show. Scandal has quickly become a cultural phenomenon that takes over all social media every Thursday night. The show centers around political fixer, Olivia Pope who (SPOILER ALERT) is having an affair with the president. Talk about crazy. What makes this show great though is there’s really no one character that I could say is definitely good or evil. Every character has a questioning morality and I never really know who can be trusted. Almost everyone has some ulterior motive and the backstabbing (both literally and figuratively) can be shocking.

Grey’s Anatomy

GreysS8MainCast

Another product of Shondaland (actually the first Shonda show I think), I got caught up on Grey’s between the eighth and ninth season I believe. It took me about a week and half to go through all those episodes and it was probably the best binge watching experience I’ve ever heard. People sometimes say they don’t understand how the show is now going into the eleventh season but I for one can’t stop watching. There’s so much drama, love triangles, and medical awesomeness that I’m hooked.

The Mindy Project

the-mindy-project-triangle-fox

Mindy Kaling is hilarious and this show just confirms it. Centered around Dr. Mindy Lahiri, the show takes all the romantic cliches that we love from old school movies like When Harry Met Sally and turn them on their head. We get to follow Mindy through all her up and down dating woes and it’s hilarious. Besides Mindy this cast is great and will keep you doubled over in giggles throughout the whole show.

New Girl

28304

I’ve had some up and down feelings about this show. Last season didn’t impress me that much but I’m going to give this next season another try. The show started with the main character, Jess, moving into an apartment she found on Craigslist with three guys after she and her boyfriend broke up. This situation alone provided for a lot of comedy. Each character has their own quirks that make it hilarious to watch. From Winston’s very strange habits to Nick’s words of wisdom, the cast is great.

The Vampire Diaries

-ff56e427-ce5b-4530-8fd9-b41319feb974

Of course this show is constantly compared to Twilight and any other vampire show/movie but I have to admit The Vampire Diaries kind of stands on it’s own in that category. Between the witches, the werewolf’s, the dopplegangers, and the ghosts there’s a lot of supernatural creatures in this show. Of course there is a love triangle but this triangle has become so convoluted I’m not even sure it’s a shape anymore. I’ve been obsessed since season one and can’t wait to see what happens next.

The Originals

url

I know I just said The Vampire Diaries is great but The Originals is even better. The spin-off to TVD, this show is much darker than it’s predecessor. At first I was hesitant to watch it because the premise sounded ridiculous. Somehow an original vampire got a werewolf pregnant? Yeah, okay. But then my friend kept saying, “No you need to watch it!” And because I obviously don’t watch enough television I said okay. I sat down to watch the first episode and next thing I knew I was hooked. This show has the same kind of supernaturals as TVD but what’s interesting here is the dynamic between all these groups. There’s a clear divide between the witches, vampires, and werewolves and the show is focused on who’s really in control. Honestly, I have no idea who really has the power here but I’m super excited for what’s about to go down in season two.

Arrow

Arrow-promo

I’ll be completely honest here and say I totally got sucked into this show because of the Olicity ship. As often happens I went on Tumblr and just kept seeing all these GIFs and memes about this guy named Oliver Queen and this girl named Felicity Smoak and I just thought they were the cutest couple I’ve ever seen! But then I found out they weren’t even a couple and I was really confused. Anyway I started to watch the show and as much as I love Olicity there’s also plenty of other things I love about the show. The action scenes, the family drama, the Robin Hood aspect of it all. Plus I love comic book based pop culture. I don’t think enough people know about this show but they definitely should because it’s great.

Modern Family

tumblr_static_modernfamily

This show has won so many Emmy’s and rightfully so. It’s hilarious. I could list all the reasons why it’s hilarious but that would be a long list. Basically it shows a family that goes through real issues and just funny situations. It’s great because it’s comical but it also deals with some real stuff. I remember last season I actually teared up when Claire went to Alex’s high school for parent’s day and realized just how stressed her daughter really was. Alex can be very annoying but I also empathize with her and seeing one of her family members really see where she was coming from was great. I’m excited to see what happens next.

The Fosters

JAKE T. AUSTIN, DAVID LAMBERT, CIERRA RAMIREZ, MAIA MITCHELL

I have so much love this show. People give ABC Family shows too much crap. ABC Family has some really great shows and this is one of them. I just love the characters so much. All the kids have some really serious issues that kids actually go through but don’t get talked about enough. These kids go through things like being in foster care, ADHD, rape and just a lot of stuff. Besides all the drama though at the core of the show there’s this loving family that’s beautiful to watch. As Lena always says, “Blood doesn’t make a family. Love does.” Beautiful.

Switched at Birth

6820

People are often turned off by this show just because it’s about two girls who were switched at birth and obviously that concept is a little ridiculous but I mean it’s television, all shows are a little ridiculous. What really pulled me into the show is the sign language/deaf appreciation aspect. This show has shown a culture I’ve never really thought about because it has never come into my life before. Now I want to go learn sign language. Besides that though this show deals with a lot of different issues such as race, social class, and just regular family issues. It’s a great family drama that doesn’t get the love it deserves.

Orphan Black

AA_orphanblack_thumbnail_s2_02_web

I don’t understand how Tatiana Maslany still hasn’t been Emmy nominated. I just don’t get it. She’s amazing. Playing a variety of characters she pulls of each one so well that I forget it’s only one actress. The show is about a woman named Sarah who is returning back to her home to be with her daughter when she sees a woman who looks just like her commit suicide. Turns out Sarah’s a clone, one of many actually. This sci-fi drama takes a lot of twists and turns and the season two finale was crazy. I don’t even know what’s going to happen next.

Rookie Blue

Rookie-Blue-wallpapers-rookie-blue-17272553-1280-1024

This is another show I feel doesn’t get enough love. To be fair it’s a Canadian show and I don’t think a lot of people know about it. It does air in the US on ABC however but only in the summer. The show begins with a group of rookie cops heading into the force and learning the ropes of being a cop. It kind of seems like the police version of Grey’s Anatomy. They all have a favorite bar they always frequent, the rookies tend to sleep with their superiors, and they’re out saving lives. Also bonus I love Missy Peregrym and she’s what sucked me into the show in the first place.

The Legend of Korra

Avatar-The-Legend-Of-Korra-Poster

The spin off to Avatar: The Last Airbender, this new show, though it doesn’t compare to the original, is still pretty good. The last season has definitely been the best thus far. There’s still the same kind of bending fighting that I loved in the original show but there’s also a lot of new bending techniques in the show. Also the characters are great. It’s a great show that has actually gotten very mature for something they show on Nickelodeon.

House of Cards

house-of-cards-seaosn-2__140603234815

This show is so crazy. Of all the political dramas I’ve ever seen this has got to be my favorite. The manipulation that the main character, Congressman Underwood, and his wife do is so calculated and brilliant that I can’t help but be impressed and horrified at the same time. There’s a lot of depth to almost all the characters on the show, providing for an interesting dynamic on the show. The fact that it’s a Netflix show makes it the perfect binge worthy show.

Suits

Suits-season-2-62901

I’m not sure when I first got invested in Suits but I’m completely hooked now. The show focuses on a guy named Mike Ross who lands himself an associate position at one of the top law firms in New York City despite never going to law school or passing the BAR. In other words he’s kind of a boss. So is his boss, Harvey, Harvey’s secretary, Donna, and everyone’s boss, Jessica. It’s really just a show full of BAMFs and I love it.

Awkward

79535-awkward-awkward

I don’t care what any says, this show is hilarious. Between Jenna always finding herself in trouble, Tamara’s constant abbreviations, and Sadie’s “You’re welcomes” this show brings the humor. Definitely one of MTV’s hits and worth watching.

Reign

reign-tv-series

I don’t know how I forgot about Reign. I love this show. Mary, Queen of Scots, starts out all innocent and then she becomes a BAMF. I can’t wait to see her in all her Queen glory next season. She’s playing no games. YES!

Allison Argent Dies: Is it Chauvinism? (Teen Wolf 3X23 Recap)

Last night Teen Wolf shocked us all with the death of a fan favorite, Allison Argent.

tumblr_n2m53mc6JH1qd1240o5_r1_250 tumblr_n2m53mc6JH1qd1240o7_r2_250 tumblr_n2m53mc6JH1qd1240o8_r2_250 tumblr_n2m53mc6JH1qd1240o6_r2_250

Allison was a strong female lead on the show who will be greatly missed. She was an amazing young woman who was a BAMF who could defend herself and stand on her own. She made her own choices and did what she believed to be right, even when that meant walking away from her first love.

Allison was the definition of a independent woman. Additionally, she not only kicked butt but she was still feminine, working it in her cute outfits, sometimes even using her cross bow while still in a dress she wore to school.

tumblr_n2m5f58cLq1qka4t0o5_250 tumblr_n2m5f58cLq1qka4t0o3_250

She was a feminist’s dream, demonstrating that a woman can be strong, opinionated, smart, and take care of herself while also still being beautiful, sexy, and in a relationship.

tumblr_n2mawgVvZq1rz89zjo3_250 tumblr_n2mawgVvZq1rz89zjo4_250

This begs the question why kill off such a wonderful character that has developed greatly over these last three seasons into such a strong woman? Why snatch her away at the end? Of course the main reason is because Crystal Reed who plays Allison is leaving the show but there are so many other ways this could’ve been done.

For example, when Colton Haynes (Jackson) left to go to Arrow, his character was not killed off but instead he left to live somewhere in Europe. In that case, Allison could’ve easily lived and the story line could’ve been her and father moving away from Mission Hills because they’d already lost so much of their family and couldn’t stand it anymore.

Instead, however, the writers and producers chose to kill Allison, in a death that was also pointless. It served no purpose in the show for her to die other than to add shock value. There was no ritual sacrifice that needed to happen and truthfully if someone had to die it could’ve been anyone, for example one of the male twins maybe.

What’s bothersome about this whole thing is it is almost always females that die on the show. Though Alison’s aunt and Jennifer Blake were admittedly evil characters who were killed, the same could be said for Peter Hale or Deucalion who survived. Why is it that only female characters are killed off on Teen Wolf but not the male characters?

Although this could all be seen as a coincidence it’s very strange that this pattern continues to appear on this show, a show that is otherwise pretty progressive in their themes. It’s disheartening that a show that is very entertaining and continues to get better with each season seems to be working with a chauvinistic mind set.

Do you think Alison’s death was an indication of chauvinism or merely a coincidence? Vote below and sound off in the comments.

Teen Wolf Messed Me Up This Week

teen wolf

I must say, I really missed Teen Wolf and I am so glad its back. First, if you haven’t watched this episode please stop here. There will be spoilers. Okay, here we go.

First of all, Stiles my poor baby. He is going crazy and I just felt so bad for him. When his father had to hug him to help him get through his nightmare, I wanted to hug him as well. Also he can’t read and his dad might lose his job because Scott’s dad is a jerk. I just can’t.

Also, Scott and Alison are going crazy as well. The whole thing with Alison’s aunt scared the crap out of me and I thought Scott might actually kill his dad when he started to turn. I wouldn’t have been mad if he did, to be honest.

One of my favorite scenes was when Scott hit Isaac because he might be sort of dating Alison now. I’m curious to see where that goes. I mean Scott is clearly going to have his own love interest this season so I guess Alison is fair game but truthfully we all know Alison and Scott are endgame so it’s a just a matter of time before they end up back together anyway but it’ll be fun to see them with new people.

The most crazy thing to happen though was the ending. After a while I kind of figured that the girl Papa Stilinski was looking into was probably a wolf but still I was shocked that I was right. And what in the heck is going on with Derek (and Peter but I don’t really care about him)??? I was looking for him all episode and then they just left us with that and the preview literally tells us nothing. Ahhh I can’t wait until next week!!!

The 10 Winter Premieres I Can’t Wait For

1. Pretty Little Liars (January 7 at 8/7 c)

My relationship with this show was up in and down in the past. However, now as we get closer and closer (at least it seems like we are) to finding out what really happened to Ali and the whole story with A I’ve become a true fan. I can’t wait to see how everything will continue to play out. Ezra as A was definitely one of the biggest plot twists on TV last year. How the writers will one up that this season is hard to tell but looking at the previews so far, this next season will be a killer.

2. Teen Wolf (January 6 at 10/9 c)

Is it just me or does Teen Wolf get scarier with every passing season? The first half of season 3 left off with Allison, Scott, and Stiles sacrificing their own lives to save their parents, which the good doctor (or vet technically) warned them would have consequences. Meanwhile, Uncle Peter clearly has some sinister plan in motion to become an Alpha again and Scott is now a True Alpha, forming his own pack. Brining in new characters and adding more drama and mystery to the show, this next half of the season should definitely be frightening and entertaining.

3. Switched at Birth (January 13 at 8/7 c)

I’ll admit it. When I first heard about this show I thought it was absurd. Seriously, a show about two girls that were switched at birth and their parents didn’t notice for 16 years? That’s a tad bit far fetched. Even so, I decided to give the show a shot because I figured, why not? And then I got hooked. Though the switch of the two main characters, Bay and Daphne, is definitely a main factor in the show, what really makes this teen drama stand out amongst so many others is the focus on the deaf community. Daphne, who had to take a medication for an illness she had as a child that later made her go deaf, and her friend Emmett, along with their other friends who attend their high school for the deaf, shed light on a community that people don’t often talk about. Every episode has sign language in it and in the first half of this season this show pushed boundaries by having an entire episode done in sign language, thereby giving viewers a peak into what it’s like for a deaf person. Besides all these great factors the show of course has all the drama and love triangles that I can’t get enough of and I’m excited to see where Bay and Emmett’s relationship goes in this next season.

4. The Fosters (January 13 at 9/8 c)

ABCFamily has truly stepped up their game in the last few years. They have successfully put out a number of great TV shows recently and this is another one. I tried really hard not to get caught up in this show because I knew I would get hooked but I couldn’t resist. There is not one character on this show that is one dimensional. Each character is going through something; either trying to figure who they are as a person or what it means to be a part of a “unconventional” family. This show presents typical teen drama such as Mariana’s stress over her quinceañera but then digs into deeper issues like Callie’s fear of her rapist and Jude’s fear of never having a real family. I won’t even attempt to go through all the social and familial issues this show touches upon because it was truly a lot and there were only 10 episodes so far. All I can say is for every topic they covered they did it flawlessly and I can’t wait to see what happens next.

5. Scandal (February 27 10/9 c)

I just can’t even. Seriously, the writers of this show are out to kill us all. So much happened in the last episode I don’t even know where to begin. First of all, the mom is back in DC (maybe to kill Fitz; does she know he’s sleeping with her daughter?). Secondly, Fitz and Jake are now running B613 and only God knows what that means, other than Olivia’s father is now jobless. Quinn is no longer a Gladiator (thank God) and something suspicious is going on with Harrison and whoever this guy is that just came back to the US. Also, did Olivia really just let Jake walk out of her life? I’m sorry but I’m Team Jake and I do not approve of her actions. Lastly, and probably the most important thing that happened (maybe), is David now knows VP Sally killed her husband. Or at least he’ll have a very good suspicion now. I’m not exactly sure if she said anything more on the phone other than, “I have sinned,” so maybe she’s not completely caught. Yet. We’ll just have to wait and see.

6. Grey’s Anatomy (February 27 9/8 c)

Shonda must really think her fans are patient people. Someone should let her know that we most certainly are not. First of all, the promo she gave us literally tells us nothing about what’s going to happen next so thanks for nothing. I think the question that’s on everyone’s mind is: what in the world is April going to do? Truthfully, I really like her with Jackson but even so I really like her with Matthew too and Jackson had his chance. She asked him point blank in the beginning of the season if he wanted to be with her and he said no. Moving on, the other question that’s been on my mind is what did Derek tell the president? Or rather what did the president tell him? Also is Arizona really going to end things with Callie? Are Meredith and Cristina friends again now? I’m really going to need all these questions to be answered in the first episode otherwise I’m going to really upset.

7. The Vampire Diaries (January 23 8/7 c)

I love Katherine. I don’t care what anyone thinks about her, I love her and I refuse to believe she’s actually going to die. She can’t. What will the show be without Katherine? My guess is she’s going to try to do that whole soul thing and go into Elena’s body. How’s that all going to work? I don’t know. That seems to be the major focus for the upcoming episodes so I’ll just leave you with my thoughts on the whole Damon-Stefan-Elena love triangle: Team Damon all day, every day.

8. Arrow (January 15 8/7 c)

I recently got into this show and by recently I been I just binged watched the first season and caught up last week. The last episode was definitely a cliff hanger. Along with the reveal that Slade is still alive and out to get Oliver there’s the fact that Sarah and Malcolm are still alive, the “Mask” is now Laurel’s boyfriend (I guess?), and the Flash has just made an entrance (not that he knows that yet). Seriously, the writers have created a great foundation for the next half of the season. Literally, anything can happen from here. Passed on the promo it would like the main focus is the man in the mask which of course will inevitably lead to the arrival of Slade and possibly the loss of another one of Oliver’s loved ones. I’m excited to see what will happen next. All I know is with all these recent revelations, someones secret is bound to get out and soon.

9. Suits (March 6 9/8 c)

This is probably one of the longest hiatuses I’ve ever had to deal with (excluding Game of Thrones). It’s so frustrating that Suits won’t be back until March especially because it’s not easy to re-watch all of the last episodes (thanks for nothing USA). They better be giving us more than just 10 episodes for making us wait this long. If I’m not mistaken, it was originally supposed to return in January. Working past that, I can’t wait for this premiere. I love the dialogue on this show so much. Between Donna’s witty remarks, Louis’ catch phrases, and Harvey’s whole persona, the conversations are never boring. I’m interested to see how Louis is going to deal with what he found out about Mike and what Scotty has planned. Most importantly however, I really want to know what the heck Donna and Harvey do with the stupid can opener. Will we ever know?

10. House of Cards (February 14 anytime you’re ready)

Get ready to binge your heart out on Valentine’s Day. This highly acclaimed political drama that got nine Emmy nominations and three wins, will have you biting your nails with every episode. With Zoe and her team of journalists digging into the death of Congressman Russo, there’s no telling how far new VP Underwood will go to cover it up. Seeing as how he’s already killed someone I’d say there’s no limits to what Frank will do. Zoe & Co. better watch their backs and hope they get this story and still have their lives. I know I’ll be grabbing a bag of popcorn and locking myself in my room this Valentine’s Day, until I’ve finished this next season. What about you?
