1. I’m only 20.
Seriously. I can’t even drink yet so why in the world does it even matter if I’m single. Despite the fact that many people my age are actually already married, engaged, or in a relationship the truth is the majority of people in their 20s are single to mingle and I’m proud to be one of them.
2. I can kiss whoever I want.
The craziest thing I’ve heard from my single friends about New Year’s is complaints about not having anyone to kiss at midnight. Okay yeah you don’t have someone guaranteed to you for that midnight kiss but so what? Just go find a cute guy or girl and if you want it to happen make it happen. The only thing stopping you is yourself.
3. I won’t be alone
Yeah I might not have a date but I have friends and family and some people don’t have that. It doesn’t matter if you don’t have a significant other to bring in the New Year with. As long as you have awesome people you can celebrate with, who cares?
4. I can do what I want
If I want to celebrate New Year’s in the comfort of my bed I can do that. If I want to go to the club and turn up I could do that too. I can do whatever I want and make whatever plans I want because I don’t have to worry about my boo trying to make plans with me or hold me down. Maybe I want to party with my girls to bring in the New Year or go to church and start the year on the right foot. Either way, I don’t have to check with anyone before I make these plans. I can just do me.
5. Going into the New Year single doesn’t mean I’ll leave the year the same way
There’s this crazy mentality that if you don’t bring in the New Year with someone you’re going to end the year alone. That is probably the most absurd thing I’ve ever heard. Going into the New Year single only means you’re open to more possibilities in the next year. Who knows who you’ll meet? Who knows what kind of awesome dates you’ll go on? Anything can happen in a year and I think the possibility of that is exciting.
